After a good first half, with a 1-0 lead, Uruguay suffered a massive defeat. Uruguay took the lead in the 24', from a penalty. Cavani took it. Costa Rica got the equaliser from a fabulous cross, which Campbell connected to score. Uruguay fowled Costa Rica unnecessarily after conceding goal. The second goal came as a result of a free kick. Duante got his first international goal with an astonishing low header which made the goalkeeper just a spectator. They scored again to seal the match in the 84'. Adding to the Uruguayan worries, Perrera got a red card in the injury time.
