Italy reach EURO Final beating spain in penalties
Euro 2020
Semi Final
Wembley
Italy 1(4)
Spain 1(2)
Gritty Italy defeat Spain in penalties to reach final of EURO 2020. Chiesa and Morata's brilliant goals levelled both teams in the stipulated time and extra time. Eventually, Morata missed the vital last penalty the decided the match result. Italy will meet winners of Denmark and England semi final winners on 12 July at Wembley.
Italy have reached 10th major tournament final including 6 world cup finals.
Both teams played 4-3-3 in the match, but Spain had better plans. They were pressing high and they looked sharper. In the first half Italy took only one shot and that went off target while Spain had 5 shots and 1 on target saved by Donnarumma. Spain enjoyed 66 % possession with 353 passes to Italy's 184. Intent was clear when they were caught 3 times for offsides that they were looking for counter attacks.
![]() |
Italy not pressing high, plan was to make them come up and use the space behind spain defence, attack fast with 3 forwards.
That could be also due to a veteran Playing in CB position, slower
It was interesting to see they didnt waited for other players whenever they got ball possession.
Italy broke the deadlock against the run of play. Chiesa's curving shot went past Unai Simon into the net.
Ball fell free for him inside the net while Immobile trying to dribble past defenders and he suddenly latched onto it and took the shot.
64'
Koke plays a ball dropping to second post from box edge , which was a sure chance to score for Oyarzabal, but he failed to connect
67'
Chiesa Berardi combines to make an effort which was saved by Keeper Unai Simon
80'
Morata scores. 1-1
Morata receives ball from back, he runs through the middle, and plays 1 -2 with Danny Olmo, which makes him through into the box, and defence behind him, he taps it past Donnarumma. Cool composed finish.

Goals galore at EURO
As we move to the semi finals of the Covid delayed EURO 2020, we have seen some thrilling matches throught the tournament. Predictions are going wrong all along and big teams crumble in the process.
We have seen a different approach and attitude from team in this edition of EURO. There was no team who thought they could win if score one goal in the tournament. In most of the matches, opponents come up with replies to take the matches to more tough level.
In 2016, UEFA decided to increase number of teams in tournament from 16 to 24. 20 matches increased from previous format's 31. When Portugal became champions for the first time, there were 108 goals from 51 matches.
In 2020 , (2021 year) there were just 2 matches ended in 0-0 (England vs Scotland, Spain Vs Sweden) score while 4 in 2016. 1-0 score were 12, including finla, as we saw just 8 so far in 2020.

England thrash Ukraine to register Semi spot
EURO 2020
Quarter Final
Rome
England Vs Ukraine
Kane 4', 50'
Maguire 46'
Henderson 63'
England had a stomping win over Ukraine at Rome to reach Semi final of the EURO 2020. Harry Kane scored 2 while captain Macguire scoring third. Henderson scored his first ever goal for England to finish the score. England will play against Denmark on 8 July at Wembley. England kept clean sheet again and only team to do so in the entire tournament so far. Its just third time England reaching Semi Final after 1968 and 1996 Euros. This looks a dream run for England, which they eish to end eith trophy win.
Southgate started with Sancho and Mount along with in form Sterling in his 4-2-3-1 formation as Ukraine in 3-5-2, as brilliant forwards Yaremchuk and Yarmolenko at front. Dovbyk was rested on bench.
Kane scored in the fourth minute, Sterling plays him through and Kane stretches his foot to it and pushes with tip. Goal keeper turns his chest and allows ball past him for a goal.
England dominated game, without giving much to Ukraine's credit. They could take only 2 shots in first half.
England doubled their lead just after half time break. England were awarded free kick for foul on Kane. Macguire connected Luke Shaw's kick and scored.
England extended their advantage soon , again attack coming from left wing, when Shaw ships a good cross, which came close and infront of goal, Kane headed it down through the legs of keeper.
Henderson came in for Declan Rice.
Harry Kane's superb volley was pushed away by Bushchan in the 62nd minute. Resulting corner was taken by Mount, whose flighted kick was connected by Henderson with a free header. Now it looked impossible for Ukraine to come back.
Southgate took this chance to give rest to his main players and try Bellingham, Rashford, Trippier, Calwert Lewin. England tried to keep tha possession and they secured win without further tension. Heart break for Shevchenko and his men.
Harry Kane was declared star of the match.
Denmark reach second Semi final after 1992
EURO 2020
Quarter Final
Baku
Denmark 2
Delaney 5'
Dolberg 42
Czech Republic 1
Schick 49'
Thrilling game. Attack from the very start till end of the match. These kind of matches makes fans, more than super star players for the beautiful game. Czech republic played really well but it was Denmark who created and found target more to move ahead in the tournament. Schick reached 5 goals alongside Ronaldo in the top scorer race, with all top scorers officially out of tournament now (Ronaldo, Schick, Forsberg, Lukaku, Benzema).
Denmark will play against winners of match England vs Ukraine at Wembley, on 08 July. The current world 10th team looks unstoppable at the moment, after their first match defeat following unfortunate situations related to Eriksen.
Match started with Czech Republic paying tribute to Eriksen by giving Czech jersey with Eriksen's name on it. But, Denmark didnt show any mercy on pitch as they took lead in the 5th minute from corner. Larsen's kick was a bit deep, where Delaney was standing unmarked. His placing header to ground found back of net. It looked like they are continuing from where they stopped against Wales win. They kept on attacking and were looking confident.
Delaney almost scored second in 16th minute, but his shot went wide this time. On the other side, Soucek missed 2 chances from corner, one he would think over time, where the post was and where he aimed to.
Holes got a chance but Shmeichel closed down fast and saved shot conceding a corner.
In 42 minute, Denmark doubled their lead, when Dolberg tapped in a wonderful juicy outside foot cross by Maehle from left wing, came right infront of goal, when goal keeper Vlasic was standing in desperate nothing to do situation.
After half time break, Czech looked more positive , energetic and that resulted in goal. Schick smartly turned Coufal's cross towards goal with a half volley to ground, which deceived Shmeichel.
They continued to attack. Denmark brought Poulsen in and he got chances , hit on target, but saved by Vlasic.
Maehle also got a chance to score when Poulsen gave a defense splitting ball for him but Vlasic came close and closed him down to deny a goal.
Delaney was awarded Star of the match award.

EURO 2020
Quarter Final
Alliance Arena, Germany
Italy 2
Barella 31
Insigne 44
Belgium 1
Lukaku 45+2' (P)
Even Belgium's golden generation cant stop Italy when they changed into attacking mode as they beat Belgium for 5th time in major tournaments. Italy's defensive experience gave them the edge after taking lead in first half. Lukaku missed close range with Spinazzola clearing from line. Italy will meet Spain in Semi at Wembley on 7 July.
Belgium started with Doku replacing injured Hazard in 3-4-2-1 formation as Italy remained in their 4-3-3, and Chiesa starting. Belgium attacked from the very first minute, De Bruyne sending ball to Lukaku, into the box but he couldn't take shot. Soon his right footed ahot went over the bar Italy took lead in the 13 minute from free kick , when Chiellini tapped in with body but denied as he was offside.
Donnarumma saved De Bruyne's powerful left foot shot with right hand. Barella's goal came from a defensive mistake, the ball was won back by Belgium inside box from Italian attack, but they hesitated to clear and Italy won it back and Barella took a powerful shot that went in for goal.
Italy kept on pushing for more goals as they were sure 1 is not enough against this Belgium side. They got the result , when Insigne's curving shot went pas Courtois again. He has been trying that shot from very first match.
Match was getting heated up as Belgium were pushing for goals. They got a chance through penalty as Baku was fouled in box by Di Lorenzo. Italians argued but VAR confirmed referees decision. Lukaku scored his 4th goal in EURO from the spot.
Chances and hope were wide open for both teams in the second half but they couldnt score more in the 45 minutes but Italy marched through with their first half advantage. Insigne was awarded star of the match. Belgium's wait continues for a major tournament tittle.

Quarter final Match 1
EURO 2020
Spain vs Switzerland
Gazprom arena, St Petersburg
Zakaria 8' (OG)
Shaqiri 68'
Freuler 🟥 77'
Spain beat Switzerland in quarter final match at St Petersburg, which went on to penalties after scores stayed on level 1-1 in stipulated 90 minutes and extra time. Spain took lead in the 8th minute when Jordi Alba's shot deflected into the net from Zakaria and Swiss found equaliser in the 68th minute through Shaqiri's brilliant finish. It was Sommer who stood between Spain and win after Switzerland lost Freuler saw red and limited to 10 men. He made 10 saves, including short range efforts. He tops the liat with 21 saves in 5 matches. On the other hand, Spain move ahead giving more headache for coach Enrique. Spain will meet Italy in the Semi final on 7 July at Wembley.
As expected, Spain were dominating ever since the start. Player maker Xhaka was missing after 2 yellow cards and Swiss really missed his presence. In the first half it was 75-25 ball possession. Spain scored early from the corner. Ferran Torres dribbled through right wing, which Rodriguez cleared to corner for safety. Koke took the corner, ball came to Alba, outside box and his shot took deflection off Zakaria, who made his first start in the match. But, Switzerland managed to keep defending the entire half, without conceding another. Akanji, Rodriguez had a really good and hard match. Switzerland started 3-4-1-2 but reformed to 4-2-3-1. Swiss felt really hard to play with Spain pressing high and in numbers. They were positioned in 4-3-3. Most of the first half, ball was inside Swiss half, and they barely took a shot for goal. They got a corner in the first half but , Akanji's header was way high for hitting target.
Swiss missed Embolo in the 23' min due to thigh injury and Vargas came in. Azpilicueta header was saved by Sommer to keep the score 1-0 for half time.
In second half, Switzerland made up mind to come back to game and fight. Spain called back Morata and Gerrard Moreno came in for him. Swiss had a chance when Rodriguez cross came in and Zakaria headed it, but just wide off the target. They hit shot on target first, again attack came from left flank, Zuber gave Vargas a ball inside box, but he opted to go to near post, and Simon eventually saved it. Swis tries found the result in 68' from a defensive mistake by Spain.
A long ball was in between Pau and Laporte, and ball fell free for Freuler. His pass came for Shaqiri, whose right footed placing shot went past Simon, who couldnt do much. Third goal for him in the tournament, 26th for country in his career. Spain were looking well organised and clean in first half ,but abit shaken in the second.
But Freuler saw red for his challenge on Moreno. Shaqiri was subbed and Sow came in , and Gavranovic, who scored late equaliser in match against France, came in for Seferovic. Slowly, Spain were pushing for win but they couldnt score. Teams break after 90 minutes 1-1.
Extra time saw heroic saves from Sommer. He looked impossible to beat and was on top of his game. Close range shot from Moreno and long range effort from Alba were pushed away. Oyarzabal's curler was tipped to wide post for corner. Rodrigues blocked a clear shot on goal and Llorente missed and hit over the bar. It seemed luck was favouring Swiss.
To win, Thiago Alcantara came in in the second half of extra time. But he couldnt prevent match going to penalties.
To stun all, Sergio Busquets first kick hit the left upright and Gavranovic scored to make it 0-1.
But Olmo scored his chance but Schar couldnt score. 1-1.
Sommer stopped Rodriguez shot and gave Switzerland hope but again Akanji missed.
Spain scored both of their next kicks and secured win when Vargas hit above bar and missed Switzerland fourth kick.
Unai Simon was declared Star of the match but Sommer won hearts.

Ukraine reaches EURO quarter for the first time beating Sweden in dramatic extra time goal
Euro 2012
Round of 16
Glasgow
Sweden 1
Forsberg 43'
Danielsson (Red card) 99'
Ukraine 2
Zinchenko 27'
Dovbyk 120+1'
Another thrilling match, Euro round of 16 thrill lasted till the very last minute, from the start of it. The match was decided in a very late goal came in injury time of extra time. Unlucky Sweden out from tournament with Forsberg scoring 4 , second top scorer so far. Ukraine will meet England in quarter final on 04 July at St Petersburg. Its Ukraine's second only quarter reach ever in major tournaments after 2006 World cup.
These 2 teams met last in 2012 Euro, when Ukraine came from behind to beat Sweden, Present Coach Andriy Shevchenko scored the winner then. He used 3-5-2 against Sweden's 4-4-2 Yarmolenko and Yaremchuk at forward Positions. Kulusevski and Isak were starting as forwards for Sweden, with Forsberg, Ekdal, Larson, Olsson lining behind them. Sweden came into the match as group E toppers and Ukraine as Group C third placed team.
First clear attempt on goal was from Ukraine, a combined attack by forwards and then Yaremchuk's powerful shot was pushed away by keeper Olsen.
At 19', Isak's shot went just wide of the post.
It was Ukraine who scored first, from the dangerous right wing attack. Yarmalenko crossed ball to box where Manchester City man Zinchenko was waiting. His left footed low side volley was too strong for Olsen to stop. This was his 7th international goal from 43 games.
Sweden continued to pressure Ukraine for equaliser and it came from most dangerous player Forsberg again. He looked trying his luck from outside the box, but ball took deflection and went past keeper.
Both teams went for half time break in level score.
In the second half, Yarmalenko cleverly cut back ball into the box for Sydorchuk, whose curved shot hit the upright and went away. After that Forsberg hit the post twice but it seemed his luck was over in the tournament.
It went on to extra time as both teams couldn't take lead in the stipulated time.
Danielson received red card for fouling Besedin dangerously. He got ball while tackling, but his boot was too up. Even with 10 men, Sweden held Ukrain well, hoping to deal the match in penalties.
But Dovbyk's late goal broke their hearts and secured Ukraine's spot in the quarter finals.

In an important match at Wembley, England recorded a historic win with 2 goals to nil. It is for the first time since 1966, England are defeating Germany in a competitive match.
Again sterling found the net, and Kane joined with him. Grealish came in as substitute and played a very important role in English win. With Germany also falling, all teams from Death group are now out of tournament. This could be last match and last Euro for Neur, Muller, Kroos.
England will play against winners of Ukraine , Sweden match at Rome, Sunday 04 July.
A fully packed Wembley wasn't going to take anything but a win. Germans were coming to it with a confident win on Portugal. England changed formation from 4-2-3-1 to 3-4-3, clearly indicating his need of more than one goal. Whereas, Germany used 3-4-2-1.

Pogba 75'
Switzerland 3(5)
Seferovic 15', 81'
Garvanovic 90'
What a game. . . Action, drama, thriller. The beautiful game at its best. After many turnarounds, another tournament favorites return home from EURO 2020. Star player Mbeppe missing vital penalty kick turned out to be the deciding moment of the game. This was the third match in this round going into extra time, and first one decided by penalties . On Friday, 2 July, Switzerland will meet Spain in quarter final match.
France came to this match without losing a competitive game in 2 years. Swiss were using 3-4-1-2 against France's 3-5-2 formation. Against the predictions, Switzerland took lead in the 15th minute. Zuber gave a juicy cross into the 6 yard box, Seferovic placed it well away from Lloris to get the lead. Zuber has been disturbing France at left flank as Varane received first yellow fouling him. Both teams went for break with that score as France couldnt find target.
In second half, it was Swiss again who came up with a chance to lead. Pavard slides into the feets of Zuber, missing ball inside box, but play continued untill Mbeppe got fouled at the other end. Then referee decided to check VAR and he awarded penalty for Swiss. Rodriguez, who stepped up for the job, was but denied by Lloris diving to his right. Soon after Mbeppe missing target, Benzema levelled the score with a nice touch. Mbeppe pushed ball into the running legs of Benzema, whose touch didnt controlled ball well but he managed to tap it past Sommer with his left. France took lead in 2 minutes time, when Griezman's shot bounced off Sommer's hand came infront of goal at the other side of post, which was a simple tap in for Benzema. Real Madrid man scored his 4th goal of the tournament.
France was slowly taking vontrol of the game. Switzerland started making way for fresh legs as Shaqiri went out for Gavranovic. But again France extended their lead thanks to excellence placing curving shot by Pogba from around 28 yards. Perfectly placed well beyong extending Sommer's hands at the left top corner of the post. Beauty it was. He well deserved the prize as he was having a great match.
It seemed like match is gonna end 3-1 but then more drama was left for the night. It seemed changes worked for Swiss, as Mbabu's cross was headed powerfully into net by Seferovic. Lloris couldn't even move his hands. As the match was going towards final whistle, Gavranovic scored from outside the box, a low flying shot, moving away from Lloris. France were stunned.
Coman, wasn't lucky to be hero for France as he hit post just after Swiss equaliser. As both teams couldn't score in extra time, it was time for first penalty shootout of the tournament.

Spain Edge past Croatia in thriller
Euro 2020
Round of 16
Copenhagen
Spain 5
Sarabia 38'
Azpilicueta 57'
Ferran Torres 76'
Morata 100'
Oyarzabal 103'
Croatia 3
Unai Simon (OG) 20'
Orsic 85'
Pasalic 90+2'
What a game. Croatia fought well to get a spot in the final 8, but missed chances deny them a win over spirited Spain. Match turned out to be a classic, Spain won match and Croatia hearts. It could be last time we see great Modric in Euros. He was, as always, a pleasure to watch. Spain would meet winners of match between France and Switzerland.
Earlier, both teams started with 4-3-3 formation. Croatia got a lucky goal advantage when Unai Simon casually touched a ball from Pedri to his own net, without any pressure or any player near him. But, Spain came back to match with a superb attacking goal. Livakovic stopped first shot from Gaya, but Sarabia got loose ball that he smashed into the net. Azpilicueta headed another one home for Spain in the second half to give Spain lead. It seemed match would be over whrn Spain scored again and took score to 3-1. Ferran Torres took a brilliant first touch and took ball into box for a 1v1 with goal keeper before tapped past it to net. But, to keep viewers on edge, Croatia pulled one back. Modric took ball all the way to byline and crossed the ball across past goal keeper, after a hustle substitute stricker Orsic kicked it behind the line. Referee confirmed goal by goal line technology.
Before stoppage time, Croatian levelled eith a stunning goal, when Orsic passed ball into box , which came between the centre backs, which Pasalic sliced with head into the net.
The match was decided by two big misses in the first half of extra time. Croatia, especially their left flank looked dangerous in the extra time. 2 of their chances wrnt in vain, as one kicked above goal and another stopped brilliantly by Simon. Soon, Spain scored 2 goals in succession.
In the second half of extra time, Spain kept ball and denied Croatia a chance to come close to goal. Modric getting substituted was the real mark of Croatians giving it up.

Defending Champions Portugal, who failed to score even with 23 shots crashed out of Euro 2020. Belgium will meet Italy on 3 July, Saturday at Munich in their quarter final match. This could be the last time we see 36 years old super star Christiano Ronaldo, one of the greatest of all time. Currently, he is the top scorer in the tournament with 5 goals.
Earlier, Belgium, who are world number 1 team at the moment, started in. 3-4-2-1 formation, with Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Lukaku in attacking positions. They were playing 59th match, in which they managed to find the net 56 times under their spanish coach Roberto Martinez. They have won all three of their group matches and scored 7 times in the process.
But, Portugal dominated the match with possession, attack and defence. They didnt even conceded single corner in the match. 6 shots came from Belgians and just one on target, came from Thorgan Hazard, from left inside of the pitch, just outside the box, which turned away from stretching Rui Patricio.
In the second half, Diogo Jota got the best chance of the match for Portugal, but Liverpool man's shot went agonizingly high above the bar. His another shot hit left upright.
