Goals galore at EURO

As we move to the semi finals of the Covid delayed EURO 2020, we have seen some thrilling matches throught the tournament. Predictions are going wrong all along and big teams crumble in the process.

We have seen a different approach and attitude from team in this edition of EURO. There was no team who thought they could win if score one goal in the tournament. In most of the matches, opponents come up with replies to take the matches to more tough level.

In 2016, UEFA decided to increase number of teams in tournament from 16 to 24. 20 matches increased from previous format's 31. When Portugal became champions for the first time, there were 108 goals from 51 matches.

In 2020 , (2021 year) there were just 2 matches ended in 0-0 (England vs Scotland, Spain Vs Sweden) score while 4 in 2016. 1-0 score were 12, including finla, as we saw just 8 so far in 2020.

Here is a look back on goals from last 5 EUROs

Most goals (so far) :

Denmark 11

Total Attempts :

Italy 101

Denmark 90

Which shows, if you attempt, you score.

Clean sheets :

England 5 (out of 5 wow)

Italy 3

Belgium 3

Total saves :

Switzerland (Sommer) 21

Wales (Ward) 18

Turkey (Cakir) 18

In just 3 matches, Turkey keeper had to make 18 saves, and still couldn't keep them in tournament , which shows how poor were their defence. Also, they were one of the top goals conceded teams in first round with no wins.  (8 goals )

Football is changing. We have seen teams using more attacking formations in this edition :- 4-3-3, 3-4-3, 3-5-2. Even italy is now attacking throughout the 90 minutes period. If you are practicing or coaching, keep this in mind.
