Current world champions USA defeated a fighting Aussies in the bronze medal match. They will look back very deep about the tournament as the champions pride was hurt from the very first match.
Rapinoe started scoring for USA in the 8th minute but Kerr (17') levelled for matildas. Rapinoe scored again and gave them in the 21st minute. It looked like USA going for a massive win when Lloyd scored double (45+1', 51') to take the score to 4-1. But, Aussie ladies were determined not to give up without a fight.
Foord scored soon for them (54') to decrease rhe deficit. But, USA made it tough for them as they couldn't find another untill 90th minute. Gielnik found the net but then it was too late for them.
Rapinoe's first goal was an Olympic goal. Australian keeper couldn't keep the ball out. She scored second when Aussies defender kicked a ball straight to her, she just had to tap into the net.
Australia's all goals were brilliant though. Kerr finished from a through boal, as Foord flicked a header past keeper. Kerr hit target again but was denied by the woodwork. Gielnik found the target from a long shot, which flew low and curled away to the right side of the keeper.
